After the wisdom teeth removal, most patients heal and resume normal activities between 2 and 7 days. As this video explains, the healing process is usually determined by how well you follow your dentist’s after-operation instructions.
After wisdom teeth removal, instructions for a quick recovery are grouped into a 24 and 48-hour window.
During the first 24 hours, here are the dos and don’ts.
Do Bite on gauze 1 hour after extraction and do not spit and avoid sneezing or coughing. Do not brush, rinse or floss
Use ice packs for swollen areas and do take the pain-relieving medication in case of any discomfort. After the numbness, you can drink a lot of fluids, and highly nutritious meals like pudding and fruit smoothies
After 24 hours, you can eat normally but avoid crunchy foods, brush but be as gentle as possible, and continue using your antibiotics. Rinse with warm water or an antimicrobial rinse but sway your head and not your cheeks.
Finally, it’s advisable to call your dentist immediately if there is worsening pain, heavy bleeding, and bad taste or odor in your mouth.
