Wisdom teeth removal is something almost everyone has to go through, but there are some ways to get yourself healed and back to your regular activities sooner rather than later. Keep reading to learn some tips for healing after wisdom teeth removal.
Immediately after your wisdom teeth removal, bite on a gauze piece for 30-60 minutes on the extraction site. This will help stop the bleeding.
Your mouth will be producing a lot of saliva during this time which will turn red when it mixes with the blood from the removal, so you should know you are not bleeding as much as it looks. You can repeat this process as necessary until the bleeding stops.
Also, do not spit or suck through a straw. This will dislodge the clot formed at the extraction site causing bleeding, delayed healing, and can lead to dry socket. For at least three days, drink your water or juice directly from a glass instead of using a straw.
Another thing to avoid is smoking or using tobacco for 24 hours after surgery. The sucking action of smoking is similar to drinking through a straw and could dislodge your blood clot causing more bleeding.
